Description

The AIRCAT 25 WindFarmer is a high-speed air-cushioned catamaran developed in close collaboration with a major offshore renewable energy operator, which provided detailed operational feedback and first-hand insight into the realities and constraints of offshore wind farm maintenance activities.

The vessel was specifically conceived for technician transfer operations to both fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind farms, with particular attention given to transit efficiency, onboard comfort, and transfer safety. Capable of transporting up to 24 technicians, the AIRCAT 25 WindFarmer combines catamaran architecture with Surface Effect Ship (SES) air-cushion technology, allowing significantly higher transit speeds than conventional crew transfer vessels while maintaining excellent seakeeping characteristics.

One of the inherent advantages of the SES platform is the Ride Control System (RCS), which uses the air cushion to damp vessel motions during transit. This considerably improves onboard comfort, reduces fatigue and exposure to seasickness, and helps technicians arrive on site in better condition for maintenance operations.

During transfers, the Motion Compensation System (MCS) stabilises the vessel in bow push-on mode against the boat landing and reduces relative sliding motions between the vessel and the structure, improving safety and operational capability during personnel transfers offshore.

By reducing transit times and improving offshore accessibility, the AIRCAT 25 WindFarmer was designed to maximise the effective working time of technicians offshore and help minimise intervention response times on wind turbines.
