Description
The AIRCAT 28 is a custom-designed high-speed air-cushioned catamaran developed in response to a specific offshore oil and gas requirement expressed by a Thailand-based operator during a tender process.
Unlike other vessels within the AIRCAT range that were developed around broader operational philosophies, the AIRCAT 28 was specifically engineered to meet a defined set of client operational requirements and project constraints. The vessel therefore illustrates the flexibility of the AIRCAT SES (Surface Effect Ship) platform and its ability to be adapted to particular end-user needs and regional operating profiles.
Designed for offshore personnel transport operations between shore bases and offshore installations, the AIRCAT 28 combines high transit speeds, reduced hydrodynamic resistance, and improved offshore transfer capability through the integration of SES air-cushion technology.
The vessel also differs from most other AIRCAT platforms through its propulsion arrangement, featuring two main propulsion engines instead of the four-engine configuration commonly found on other models in the range. This configuration was selected in accordance with the client's preference to prioritise operational performance and simplicity over propulsion redundancy.
